Beach House – Avalon

The site for this house is a long narrow block sloping due south to the seafront with a view directly across the bay to Bilgola Headland. Immediately in the foreground of this view is a popular surfing break, which forms a middle ground to the view.

The house was made with a continuous ground floor living area stepping down the site. A combination of level changes, joinery, furniture placement and the varying height of each level form each room within this continuous living area, with different experiences of the view occurring from one room to the next. Walls are oriented North-South and are without openings in order to focus the view, maintain privacy to neighbouring properties and provide for hanging art. At the centre of the house is a large courtyard, which is the focus of the house, and has the Kitchen, Dining, Entry and Upper Sitting Room opening to it.
